Where are you planning to get your green beer tonight? No idea? Check out our big list o' St. Patrick's Day Events to help you decide.

While we're on this subject ... who decided drinking green beer was cool? (As far as I can tell, no one knows the origins of green beer.)

You realize this is a religious holiday, right? Uh, yeah ... it is. For more than a century, Irish Catholics have celebrated Saint Patrick's Day — key word: Saint. Even though the holiday falls smack in the middle of Lent, a time when deprivation reigns, that religious observance's strict rules are lifted for a day so folks can get their drink and jig on.

Don't believe me? Check out the History Channel's page on St. Patty's Day history to learn all about why you're expected to eat pork and wear green (hint: the green is all about politics) — and why you'll be pinched if you don't. OK, the History Channel doesn't explain the pinching, but the Christian Science Monitor does. (Apparently Americans made that part up.)
