Anthony Foxx took the oath of office Monday, becoming the first Democrat to lead Charlotte in 22 years.

Foxx replaces Pat McCrory who held the office of Charlotte mayor for seven terms. At Foxx's swearing in ceremony, many people from across Charlotte showed up to see a changing of the guard.  The crowd spilled into three overflow rooms upstairs ... but what do people expect of Charlotte's new mayor?

"I expect a more inclusive Charlotte," said Leslie Dwyer. "I think the neighborhoods are going to see a big jump in what benefits them. At this point, we've been real happy with some of the things that Anthony Foxx has helped us with when he was on city council. We had a flood plane ordinance that was a controversy, and we're getting a greenway where the apartments used to be."

Foxx's supporters sounded hopeful about the future of the city, as well as Foxx himself. In remarks to the crowd after taking the oath of office, Foxx said that the city will rebound from it's current economic downturn. People cheered excitedly after Foxx officially became the mayor.

"I expect an exciting future for Charlotte," said Alex Monahan. Pat McCrory is the only mayor that Monahan has known since moving to Charlotte four years ago. Now, he's looking forward to a more unified city.

But Monahan is really looking forward to better roads in Charlotte. "Charlotte is good, but I think potholes are a major problem for the city."

Kareem Reed, who moved to Charlotte from Columbia, S.C. said he hopes that Foxx will bring more jobs to the Queen City.

"None of these plans can happen over night," said Reed.

In his last meeting as mayor, Pat McCrory cried a few times as he presented the Mayor Award to former city council member John Lassiter. And Lassiter, who ran against Foxx for mayor, got choked up as he accepted the award and talked about his 20 years of service to Charlotte.

Now that Democrats have the majority of the seats on city council, what changes are we really going to see in city government?
