Intimidation isn't democractic

The GOP is up to its old Rovian tricks: Scare the masses with utter bullshit.

FactCheck.org can tell you. But who cares about facts when you can scream down public servants in an effort to prevent democratic discourse?

In the Right's effort to regurgitate their daily talking points, they're doing their best to mute any other voices.

That's not the democratic way to do things. That's dictatorial. That's Karl Rove's wet dream. (For those unaware, Karl Rove is also known as "Bush's Brain." He's responsible for a number of dastardly Republican sins throughout recent political history.)

Currently, health care lobbying firms are coaching angry wing nuts on what to yell at rallies and how to dominate the conversation. They're trucking in protesters to fill the benches at town hall meetings.

Meanwhile, the GOP is celebrating the fact that the health care industry is up to no good, even amid lies as wild as euthanizing the elderly — which is absurd.

Check out this memo ThinkProgress.org found, instructing wing nuts on how to disrupt civic meetings.

Intimidation isn't democratic. It isn't patriotic.

Want to make wise decisions? Let's talk about the facts. Stop screaming. Stop making stuff up to scare the uninformed masses. Talk to us like the intelligent constituents we are. Let's have a discussion and work on a compromise.

What's going on now is nothing more than a pathetic display of corporate lobbyists' control over those who refuse to arm themselves with facts. People who get riled up when someone on the radio tells them something, but who won't take the time to double-check the source of the information.

If you are a connoisseur of conservative media, then you’ve probably heard that health-care reform threatens to lead us toward a totalitarian dystopia in which the government kills off the old and unfit.

Obviously, these protests aren’t exactly spontaneous. As Talking Points Memo and others have reported, they’re being orchestrated by Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks, the same lobbyist-run groups behind the Tea Parties earlier this year. The Think Progress site has even obtained a memo from a volunteer with Tea Party Patriots, a group set up by FreedomWorks, on how to disrupt Democrats’ town-hall meetings and challenge their “socialist agenda.” “You need to rock-the-boat early in the Rep’s presentation,” it says. “Watch for an opportunity to yell out and challenge the Rep’s statements early. … The purpose is to make him uneasy early on and set the tone for the hall as clearly informal, and free-wheeling.”

In related news: McCrory slams health care plan at rally attended by a whopping 200 protesters. (Note: That's no majority.)

Way to recite the GOP's talking points of the day, Mayor.
