Senate panel votes in favor of Sotomayor

Well, this isn't a surprise. Makes you wonder why in the hell the Senate wastes so much damn time with these types of hearings. Could it be they're just trying to angle for more face time on TV?

Perhaps.

There is no law stating the hearings are mandatory. In fact, the first one wasn't held until 1916.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has voted 13-6 in favor of Sonia Sotomayor, President Barack Obama's pick to replace retiring Justice David Souter on the Supreme Court.

The full Senate is expected to vote on her nomination next week.
