Emergency pantries and soup kitchens are reporting increases in requests for assistance of 30 to 40 percent over the same time period in 2008. Food to be delivered includes rice, pasta, tuna, canned chicken, soups, canned vegetables and fruit, oatmeal and cereal. The stages of the Tour de Food began in Mecklenburg County on February 5 and 6 and end in Burke County on March 27.
