Here come the waterworks

The McCain campaign is now very upset that Obama has made a “sexist remark” involving Sarah Palin. On Tuesday, Obama criticized the economic policies of McCain by saying, “You can put lipstick on a pig … it’s still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It’s still going to stink after eight years,” according to this article.

McCain’s camp quickly contended that this was sexist remark aimed at ne’er-do-wrong Sarah Palin and released an Internet ad attacking the comment and asking viewers, “Ready to lead? No. Ready to smear? Yes.” McCain must have forgotten the remarks he made in this speech last year, in which he used the exact same remark referring to Hillary Clinton’s health care plan.

The one difference we have to lean on now than in earlier elections when Republicans were the only ones allowed to attack the other side is that Obama is not backing down. On Wednesday Obama responded to these ridiculous allegations saying, “I don’t care what they say about me. But I love this country too much to let them steal another election with lies and phony outrage and Swift-boat politics. Enough is enough.” No, Palin is not the lipstick-smeared pig. So let’s get back to campaigning before McCain implies his feelings were hurt from being called an “old fish wrapped in paper”.
