The Uptown Shelter has hired a new executive director.

W. Carson Dean will begin full-time in September, according to an e-mail received today from the shelter. Dean comes to the shelter from the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness and has an extensive resume.

The shelter, which provides housing, rehabilitation and other services, has a capacity to serve 225 homeless men. The shelter had been without a permanent leader since Bill Newman left, which was at least several months ago.
