Adult education

Last week, a Baltimore City art teacher was beaten by a student in class, as other students cheered, and one even taped it with her cell phone. The reason for the attack -- the teacher asked the student to sit down. Subsequently, the teacher was advised by the school principal that she had provoked the attack based on how she asked the girl to sit down. Huh? This incident highlights a different type of education that is going on, one where there is little respect or regard for authority.

Have we gotten to the point where a teacher cannot ask a student who is disruptive to sit down without fear of retribution? This teacher had just started teaching in December. What is the likelihood of her continuing when getting jumped in a classroom is justified by the school  principal? Is there any wonder that our schools are in such horrendous shape?
