When will gas prices relent?: Charlotte gas prices rose over the last two weeks and experts can not predict what will happen next to the prices. Regular fuel sold for about $3.13 per gallon on Feb. 24, according to AAA Carolinas. That is a $1 more than last year. There is no definite answer as to why prices are on the rise.

Beefed-up security today at Butler High: After an unknown projectile shattered a front window of Butler High School on Feb. 22 at about 1:30 p.m., it was decided to add extra security on Feb. 25. Matthews police Sgt. Dave Harrington and CMS Deputy Superintendent Maurice Green came to this decision. Harrington said they will also secure nearby areas.

CIAA Tournament kicks off Monday in Charlotte; plans to stay through 2011: On Feb. 25 the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament starts. Most uptown hotels are sold out. Last year the event brought over 26,000 out-of-town visitors, some were top name celebrities. The CIAA also brought $28 million to the Charlotte economy last year. CIAA commissioner Leon Kerry told The Associated Press on Feb. 24 that the league agreed to a three-year extension making Charlotte home to the CIAA until 2011.

More signs of home sales weakness: Sales of existing homes reached its lowest level in January, according to the Feb. 25 industry trade release. The median price of a home sold during January went from $210,900 to $201,100 within a year.
