It is an undeniable fact that the fashion scene is booming here in the Queen City. Gone are the days of Top Design marathons and frequent trips to New York to satisfy your fashion sweet tooth. Now, you can find a local fashion-related event every weekend, it seems. However, not many of these events share the mission of The Diva Group.
As explained on their Web site, The Diva Group stands for Doing Inspiring Ventures Always. They are committed to making sure that their events spark a movement in Charlotte to motivate and encourage plus size women, who remain a minority in the fashion industry.
Whoever attributed fashion to size? Keir Duncan, the Marketing Director for The Diva Group, argues “Plus sized women are never too phat for fashion.”
With a team of beautiful plus-size models, The Diva Group seeks to combat the poor self-esteem associated with many plus sized women, and reveal a truth that is sometimes ignored: Beauty is found in curvier individuals, as well.
The movement continues on Saturday, April 4, as The Diva Group presents the 2009 Celebration of Curves fashion show at Grand Central. This event will showcase over 20 plus-size models from the Charlotte area ranging in size from 14-26. The show will spotlight several designers who specialize in plus size fashion, such as: Ashley Stewart, Darrell Roach Designs, Torrid, Jibri of Atlanta, GA, RaRa Designs of Tampa, FL, and Scarlet Plus Size Boutique.
The evening will be hosted by radio personality Jaye Delai. In addition, a special appearance will be made by Ms. Plus America Lifetime, Debbie Shannon and the Exotic Elegance, a plus sized model troupe from Tampa, FL.
Continuing with their mission, The Diva Group will donate a portion of the proceeds for the event to the Crisis Assistance Ministries, a non-profit organization that helps people who are experiencing financial hardships. For more information, visit www.thedivagroup.biz.
