Roasting oysters ... well, not really ... at Growlers

Aphrodisiacs for everybody! On Oct. 16, Growlers Pour House in NoDa will host their much-anticipated Oyster Roast, where more buckets of the sea creatures will be passed around than joints at a Kid Cudi concert.

Now, it struck me as a little paradoxical to call an event with tons of raw oysters, a “roast” but, with the beer abundance going on, maybe it’s those who attend that get “roasted,” so-to-speak! Makes sense right?

If you’re anything like myself though, the thought of something slimy making its way down your throat might seem a little off-putting, so for those of you who aren’t oyster-lovers, chill out because this event is way more than that.

You can look forward to live music from several local bands playing throughout the day. When you need something to soak up all the beer you’ve downed, drunk-food like house-made brats and sausages, fries, pretzels and clam chowder will be yummy staples on the menu. Just the thought of late-night sausages and fries gives me nostalgia of my college dorm days. Only then, we were grilling stuff on a George Foreman.

Attendance at this year’s event will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and will serve in memory of Drew Hawkins, a close friend to the Growlers establishment who was a victim of the condition.

The Roast will commence at 1 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. Be cheap and purchase your tickets in advance for $10, and it’ll include a voucher for a free drink and (worth $3) and a food voucher (worth $3). Day-of tickets will be $15. Growlers Pour House is located on 3120 N. Davidson St.
