When did innocent Halloween become 'Dress Like a Slut Night'

comment

Remember when you were a child and Halloween meant playing dress up, going to haunted houses, trick or treating and visiting pumpkin patches to carve pumpkins and make homemade pumpkin pie?

Now, as an adult, Halloween has transformed into "Dress Like a Slut Night." Halloween is the one night of the year where girls can dress like a total slut and no one says anything about it. Well, I'm saying something after the fact. This has become such a trend that when I went to a costume store I had to look in the little boy section for something that would cover my ass. Because nowadays when selecting a costume often the term slutty or sexy is just thrown in front of it: slutty nurse, sexy devil, slutty cop ... Victoria Secret Angel (aka chick in bra & panties).

I don't knock it till I try it, so I tried being a slut for Halloween. A few years ago, when I had six pack abs as opposed to a six pack of beer in my belly, I went out as a slutty referee. I realized that I did not enjoy going out half naked -- for starters, it's cold in October. Perhaps someone should consider moving "Dress Like a Slut Night" to a summer month.

Because of "Dress Like a Slut Night," I began dreading Halloween like it was a dentist appointment. And the candy all over the office, which you can never resist, doesn't help ... Halloween gives me cavities.

This year, Halloween fell on a Friday and there were as many parties throughout Charlotte as there are on New Year's Eve. However, the only party I even considered going to on Hallo-weekend was one that conveyed and portrayed the meaning of the holiday -- CarnEVIL. A carnival of evil with scary clowns, disciplinary arts, midget porn, fire dancers, a Zombie Fashion Show, four bands, 10 DJs and Big Mama's House of Burlesque for all the horrific hos celebrating "Dress Like A Slut Night."

Due to the size of this boozy bash, CarnEVIL had to expand to a two-night event. All of which is a benefit for DrumStrong and the Levine Children's Hospital

I, meanwhile, wanted to relive my childhood and take it back to the days when Halloween was fun ... so, I went to Scarowinds where the roller coasters weren't the only thing frightfully fun.

In addition to the ghouls strolling the park, the exhibits included the Cornstalkers that put the scare in scarecrow, The Asylum with mental monsters, The Slaughter House with human butchers, Alien Annihilation, VooDoo witches and The Dead Inn that had a Hitchcock's Bate's Motel thing going on. Then there was the Last Laff, a circus of scary clowns (cause nothing is scarier than a clown). They even had a musical -- Dead Awakening -- it put The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to shame.

Next Halloween, perhaps the bars should just start passing out candy and we can all go trick or treating ... as opposed to just tricking.
