I first saw the works of contemporary Italian artist Mattia Biagi — who utilizes tar as a medium — at the Mint Museum Uptown's Fairytales, Fantasies & Fear exhibit, where his wolf installation from "Little Red Riding Hood" shocked more than a handful of my fellow patrons. It's good to see that more of his art is coming to town. His upcoming Welcome to the Jungle exhibit — opening with a reception on March 29 at New Gallery of Modern Art — features more of Biagi's warped fairytale-inspired works, in the form of sculptures and watercolors. Biagi's signature gooey teddy bear pieces, which seem to represent of lost innocence, also will be on showcase.
