CD Review: Americana

The Deal: World music label focuses on America's roots with 12 tracks from artists ranging from Robert Earl Keen to indie Eliza Lynn.

The Good: Simple consideration taken to include the liner notes in English, Spanish and French. All of the songs fit nicely together playing more as a soundtrack to the same movie instead of a conglomerate mix tape. You may not know The Little Willies, but singer Norah Jones' voice goes nicely with the genre. Keen has long been an Americana mainstay, Lynn puts a jazz twist on the brand and Old Crow Medicine Show leans toward jug band roots.

The Bad: My only complaints would be that it's only 12 tracks and I would have made it all-original tracks. The cover of "House of the Risin' Sun" was unique ... but it hasn't grown on me yet.

The Verdict: A fine sampler that leaves you wanting more.
