When: Wed., Sept. 18, 12:30 p.m. 2013

Documentary, 65 minutes, Not Rated From award-winning filmmakers, Jim de Sève and Kian Tjong, ManDove dives into an ancient rite of manhood in Islamic Java – the sport of the singing doves, the Indonesian NASCAR. When General Zainuri announces the Perkutut Championship in Java, Indonesia, thousands of Muslim men arrive at the grounds where seven hundred poles stand. Here, men hoist their doves – perkutut – dangling them 20-feet high. Judges roam the forest of posts straining to discern the birds’ magical coos. If impressed, judges tack a flag to the pole. After three hours, a winner is declared.
