Local Charlotte theater group Citizens of the Universe is known for turning cult films like Fight Club and Reservoir Dogs, among others, into staged performances. So it's not so surprising to find that its latest feature, Uncle Vanya, written by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, is intense. This play, which thematically revolves around the tragedies of a wasted life, might not be as dangerous as a game of say, Russian roulette, but if you think about the concepts it touches on long enough, you may become more than a little afraid. For reservations, call 704-293-8374 or e-mail cotu23@yahoo.com. For more information, visit www.citizensoftheuniverse.org. $10. May 21, 9:30 p.m.; May 22, 8 p.m. Story Slam, 1401 Central Ave., Ste. 103.
