When singer/songwriter/guitarist Duncan Sheik last visited the Q.C. for a performance at McGlohon Theatre, he gave Charlotteans who attended the show a small taste of select songs that he'd written for Broadway's Spring Awakening. It was an attention-getter even with only a listen to a few ditties from the now sizzling musical, created by Sheik and Steven Sater and based off of the controversial German expressionist play by Frank Wedekind. See in its entirety as Spring Awakening courses through Belk Theater on Feb. 2 with continued performances through Feb. 7. Winner of eight Tony® Awards, the musical celebrates the transitions from youth to adulthood with flair (sexuality and rock 'n' roll included). Adult language and content. $20 and up. Feb. 2-4, 7:30 p.m.; Feb. 5, 8 p.m.; Feb. 6, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Feb. 7, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Belk Theater, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000. www.blumenthalcenter.org.
