Things are about to get hot in performances of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein's award-winning musical South Pacific at Belk Theater. The strong tides of World War II pose danger to the blossoming romances between two couples: Nellie Forbush, a U.S. Navy nurse and Emile de Becque, a French plantation owner and Joe Cable, a Navy Airman, and Liat, a young local native girl of the island. Let's just hope smooth sailing will prevail. Continues through Nov. 15. $25 and up. Nov. 10-12, 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 13, 8 p.m.; Nov. 14, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Nov. 15, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Belk Theater, 130 N. Tryon St. 704-372-1000. www.blumenthalcenter.org.
