The thought of seeing a boy band may be disgruntling to you, if you're not a teenager in heat that is. Luckily, in Queen City Theatre Company's newest production of Altar Boyz, you can see what appears to be a boy band, but isn't really ... you know, in real life. On stage these "Altar Boyz" -- comprised of Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham -- have the looks, but their ideologies are a little bent on Christianity (and God), instead of booty. In other words, you can expect to hear hilarious songs like "Girl You Make Me Want To Wait," and "Jesus Called Me On My Cell Phone," among others, instead of the usual highly saturated sex appeal dribbles that boy bands dish out. QCTC's own Glenn T. Griffin is director for the show and Kristian Wedolowski is production coordinator. Originally based off the book by Kevin Del Aguila, with songs and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker, Altar Boyz looks to be a holy helluva good time. $16-$28. Aug. 13-15, 8 p.m.; Aug. 20-22, 8 p.m. Duke Energy Theatre, 345 N. College St. 704-732-1000. www.queencitytheatre.com.
