The Third Root: From Africa to Latin America

When: Tue., Oct. 8, 6 p.m. 2013

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the folks at Johnson C. Smith University have created an event that captures the essence of Latin America and the Caribbean, while incorporating elements of the region’s African heritage and influence. Local and regional artists will represent with music and dance countries like Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Peru, and Puerto Rico. Performers include Just Brazil!, Cordão de Ouro, El Alma de la Luna, Franco Londoño, Kurma Murrain-Collins, Jubelin, Sycamore Project Dance, as well as a local African drumming ensemble. There’s even more music and visual artists on the agenda, as the idea is to offer cultural and historic insight to those attending.
