Recent rain did little to alleviate North Carolina's dry conditions. Mecklenburg County and most of the state remain classified as in an exceptional drought, the most severe category.

• Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities has set a daily water usage goal of 123 million gallons per day or less for the month.

• Since mandatory restrictions took effect, usage has averaged 115.2 gallons per day -- a 25 percent reduction.

• Usage has continued to decline. Customers used 93.6 million gallons on Oct. 25.

• As of Oct. 26, authorities had issued 1,186 citations to people violating the restrictions.

• Twenty percent of Mecklenburg County residents use private wells for their drinking water. Private well users are not subject to those restrictions.
