The Foreign Exchange

When: Sat., Sept. 10 2011

THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE Former Netherlands native/producer Nicolay and rapper/singer/songwriter Phonte (of regional Little Brother fame) created their debut — 2004’s Connected — before they ever met by trading files (hence the name, folks). The collaboration was successful enough that the Dutchman moved to Wilmington, and their sophomore effort — 2008’s excellent Leave It All Behind — earned a Grammy nomination for single “Daykeeper.” Authenticity followed in 2010 and saw the band move further from its hip-hop/electronica origins toward smooth soul jazz. The duo will be with live band this night, presumably in the manner of this year’s a-little-too-smooth-for-my-tastes live release, Dear Friends: An Evening with The Foreign Exchange. (John Schacht)
