It has been stated that womyn have a threshold for pain that is nine times higher than that of their male counterparts, which comes as no surprise considering the inconvenient ordeals of childbirth, PMS, and menopause. Accordingly, the 11th Annual Women In Business Achievement Awards will honor 25 womyn (not for childbirth, of course) with outstanding performance in the world of Charlotte business. In the workplace, where womyn are forced to struggle with under representation, sexual harassment, and that metaphorical glass-ceiling that we all know and love, it's nice to know that there is a league that recognizes and honors those who deliver the best results. Ruth Shaw, retired executive advisor to the chairman president, and CEO of Duke Energy, will accept the Wachovia Lifetime Achievement Award. Here's to all the womyn -- with a 'y' -- who are independent! Noon. Charlotte Convention Center, 501 S. College St. 704-973-1143. charlottebusinessjournalevents@bizjournals.com.
