The cool thing about the blues that Austin singer-guitarist Jackie Venson plays is that it’s hardly your typical white-boy bar-band exercise in rehashed Chicago riffs. Classically trained with a Berklee School of Music degree in composition and studio production, Venson has a sweet, ethereal, but husky vocal lilt, uses looped pedal steel, and generally comes at the time-honored blues form from an experimental singer-songwriter’s perspective.
