Spring Concert: Sacred & Profane

When: Sat., May 19, 8 p.m. 2012

Renaissance’s final concert of the 2011-2012 season, SACRED & PROFANE, celebrates the contrasts found in great poetry amplified by sublime choral settings from an array of master composers. Benjamin Britten’s brilliant setting of W. H. Auden’s 'Hymn to St. Cecilia' is a work that embodies this dichotomy—a hymn celebrating a saint, with no mention of the Almighty. Original choral gems by Aguiar, Barber, Biebl, Brahms, and Poulenc, as well as song and spiritual settings illustrate the great diversity to be found in the universal language of music.
