Solaris

When: Sun., March 18, 2 p.m. 2012

In honor of the Ulysses Charlotte Spring Arts Festival, co-titled "The Majesty of Russia and the Music of Tchaikovsky," The Light Factory continues its From Russia With Love film series which spotlights on Slavic films that have shaped the history of cinema. This week's screening is Andrei Tarkovsky's 1972 deranged space film Solaris. Kris Kelvin (Donata Banionis) stars as a widow psychologist who is sent to a space station that’s orbiting a planet called Solaris. While there, he must investigate the mysterious death of a doctor and the overwelming mental problems of the crew. Questions about the nature of Solaris come into play when he notices his own increasing behavioral changes — he sees his dead wife, etc. — and strange perceptions of reality.
