Show of the Year

My brother-in-law from High Point came down to see the dreamy, splashy Metamorphoses that Michael Simmons masterminded at CAST, and I'm not sure that he's stopped raving about it yet. Yes, it beautifully retold a slew of myths with a wit and sensuality that Ovid himself would have appreciated. But it also emphatically raised the bar for what is technically possible in Charlotte theaters outside the I-277 Innerbelt. Before the Knight, the Gantt, and the Bechtler were complete, Metamorphoses reminded us what a cool place Charlotte can be. The wow factor is still reverberating.
