Sharon Fogarty, Authentic Irish Flute and Whistle player will be at The Violin Shoppe on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2018. Sharon was born in Ireland with a passion and desire to play at an early age. She started with recorder and Irish whistle, and then later moved on to classical flute where she excelled and later graduated from the prestigious University of NC School of the Arts. Her career has taken her on multiple paths which include, Principal Piccolo player for the Piedmont Wind Symphony, subbing flute and piccolo with the Winston Salem Symphony, recording and studio artist on many CD’s, founding member of Immigrant’s Daughter which she performed and recorded with Rhiannon Giddens, Irish whistle player for famed Celtic rock group Brynmor with whom she will be competing this year at MerleFest, flutist with Charlotte’s own Little Big String Band, she has also graced many stages including the McGlohon Theatre for the Tosco music party and the Great Aunt Stella. Her duo with Glen Alexander, The Fiddler and the Flutist, shows off her captivating lyrical phrasing and her virtuosic prowess and command of not only classical music but swing, rock, Celtic and folk. The audience is always in awe of her showmanship! Sharon Fogarty will be at The Violin Shoppe this Saint Patrick’s Day from 12 to 4pm with a break at 2pm. She will play a variety of flutes and whistles and encourages people with interests and questions about the music and the instruments she plays to stop by.
