While Royal Shakespeare Company infiltrates Davidson College with a low-profile residency, several of the academic and performance events are open to the public. Among the most interesting RSC sidebars is a pair of appearances by the Renaissance group Ensemble Chaconne. At 2pm in Tyler-Tallman Hall of Sloan Music Center, they'll do a free one-hour lecture demonstration of the instruments and singing styles of Shakespeare's day, "As They Liked It: Musical Instruments and Performing Styles of Shakespeare's Time." Then at 8pm, the Chacs attack with a concert entitled "Measure for Measure: Music from Shakespeare's Plays." Tickets are $20. Call 704-894-2357. (Tannenbaum)

"She's a shining Star!" North Carolina native and The View co-host Star Jones Reynolds returns to introduce her new book Shine: A Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Journey to Finding Love. In the book, Star reveals the changes she made to reshape her life, including her dramatic weight loss and monster wedding to banker Al Reynolds. To experience the red carpet treatment firsthand, come to Joseph-Beth Booksellers, 4345 Barclay Downs Dr, today at 1pm and bask in the ambience set by the Charlotte Civic Orchestra. Call 704-602-9800. (Calloway)
