When: Fri., Feb. 21, 8 p.m., Sat., Feb. 22, 2 & 8 p.m. and Sun., Feb. 23, 1:30 & 7 p.m. 2014

Some tough guys might look at theater performances as being too dry, a ho-hum affair even. That’s why you’ll find most hairy, hardcore metalheads almost anywhere but in a seat at the lovely Belk Theater. (Clearly, these folks don’t know what they’re missing.) This weekend, though, the musical Rock of Ages will draw in metal fans, NASCAR fans, kids and little old ladies alike. The high-decibel show, complete with guitar-screeching, head-banging and an ample amount of classic rock hits will get those rowdy hearts back on the stairway to heaven. The noise includes selections from Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and more. It’s like '80s night at your favorite bar come to life on the stage — we won’t judge you for singing along at the top of your lungs. Those with sensitive hearing may want to pack ear plugs.
