BAFS: Right up our alley

Presented by the Charlotte Film Society, the Back Alley Film Series will offer local viewers the chance to catch motion pictures that otherwise probably wouldn't make it to the Queen City. The movies booked for BAFS will tend to be more radical than traditional CFS fare, as evidenced by the first four titles chosen to kick off the series. All films will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at Crownpoint Stadium 12, 9630 Monroe Road. Admission is $8 ($5 for CFS members). For complete information, go to www.backalleyfilmseries.com.

Aug. 18: Trollhunter. Three student filmmakers follow the title character as he hunts fearsome creatures.

Aug. 25: Hobo With A Shotgun. A derelict (Rutger Hauer) hoping for some peace and quiet decides that it's up to him to violently rid a town of its criminal element.

Sept. 22: Norwegian Ninja. A true story about a Norwegian diplomat convicted of spying for the Soviets is bastardized in this action comedy about a secret agent who battles Russkies.

Oct. 20: Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. A couple of well-meaning good ole boys are mistaken by college kids to be murderous backwoods rubes, leading to comic complications (and lots of gore).
