They just won’t go away, will they? Here we are in America circa 2017: Donald Trump is president and the Chili Peppers endure, having outlasted R.E.M., the Pixies, Rage Against the Machine, even Pearl Jam (for all intents and purposes), and why? What’s wrong with this crazy world? Ah, well, c’est la vie. If you’re into those slapped basslines and that Tarzan-beating-on-his-chest shtick, then by all means go get your “Californication” on. In all seriousness, the Chili Peppers have earned their due, releasing at least one bona fide classic album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and more jokes about socks than should be legal. They've also produced at least one bona fide musical genius, John Frusciante, who helped usher the band into its mainstream era and then left to chill out and create more experimental music.
