Revolution Charlotte, an alternative Christian church, is teaming up with The Victor Ministry and The Milestone to put on a night of religious rock with a message of hope. Special guest speakers include Jay Bakker, son of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker and leader of the Revolution NYC church, and Chip Harbin, pastor, founder and director of the Statesville-based Victor Ministry. Five bucks and a canned good will also let you hear music from Pearls Mahone & The One Eyed Jacks, 25 Minutes to Go and Revolution Radio, as well as enjoy something good off the grill.
"I noticed a need for an alternative ministry for the people who feel a disconnect to traditional churches," says Harbin, who has been a minister for six years. "I've noticed that the 18-30 demographic kind of being left out in traditional churches; we reached out, and that was our focus."
Harbin, who made it clear that he has a great deal of love and understands the need for the traditional church, is anything but your traditional minister. Along with delivering God's word, he also works at a tattoo parlor. "I hope people can see our love through our actions," Harbin says. "We're trying to collect for local Charlotte missions and put our faith in our practice. Our belief is that it's as important to show God's love as to say it. It's a time for us to celebrate that and just come together." The event takes place Sunday, July 29, with guest speakers at 4 p.m. and bands performing at 6 p.m.
