Quickie Comic Reviews

Here are some quick thoughts about a bunch of recent comics I've read:

The Good:

Hellboy: In The Chapel of Moloch -- This one-shot does nothing to forward any longstanding Hellboy mythology, but it's entertaining as, er, hell. And all of the art is by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

Thor No. 11 -- I used to think this story moved slowly, but now I just think that the story is focused.

The Astounding Wolf-Man No. 9 -- I'm so happy this brutal series is now monthly (and hopefully on time).

X-Force No. 8 -- I really thought this series was going to suck, but it's one of the best "X" books in a long, long while.

Rage of the Red Lanterns -- Geoff Johns is the shit.

The Bad:

Astonishing X-Men: Ghost Boxes No. 1 -- Great art by Alan Davis and Adi Granov doesn't excuse the fact that this superfluous comic was released because the regular Astonishing series was late.

Superman No. 681 -- I used to love Starman, which was written by James Robinson. But he seems off his game as the writer of Superman.

She-Hulk No. 34 -- Pretty much a pointless series in general.

Dunno:

Spawn No. 185 -- This issue was supposed to change the game for the Spawn series, but I'm not sure this will be enough to reinvigorate the franchise. I'll get a few more issues and let you know.
