Q: I'm interested in becoming a freelance writer. You got any tips to help me get started?

Fake questions. Real answers.

A: Well, first, I would suggest you read as much as possible. When you run across writers you dig, steal bits and pieces of their style and structure. Seriously. All good writers swipe style. In fact, once you swipe enough stuff, you'll start to see your own style grow and develop.

A second bit of advice would be to come check out my free class, The Editor's Guide to Freelance Writing.

The Editor's Guide is a two-hour workshop I'm conducting Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at Pura Vida Worldly Art (1521 Central Ave.). This course is perfect for novice writers who dream of seeing their work published in a magazine or newspaper and will cover topics, such as:

• Developing your style

• How to beat writer's block

• How to meet and network with editors

• How to pitch ideas

• And more stuff

And did I mention it's free? Yeah, it's free. To register, shoot me an e-mail at:
