Protomartyr, Mineral Girls, It Looks Sad

When: Fri., Sept. 5 2014

Boasting hair-trigger dynamics, grooves and sheets of post-punk guitar, Detroit’s Protomartyr don’t peer into the abyss — they’re in it. Frontman Joe Casey, summoning Nick Cave’s cryptic incantations and the dyspeptic drawl of The Fall’s Mark E. Smith, spins fables for a society wheezing to a halt. Like a sensible street prophet, Protomartyr creeps under your skin and burrows into your brain. (Michael Walsh)
