Starving Artist Productions returns, following up more chipper past performances of The Dumb Waiter, Don't Cry for Me Margaret Mitchell and The Birth, with a new drama targeting domestic violence awareness. Playwright Lori Fischer's Petie tells the emotional story of a mother and daughter battling grief as the anniversary of a loved one's death approaches. Little more details are provided about the plot, but what we do know is that Petie is already generating some buzz up in the Big Apple — it was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Regional Theater Conference Award, a runner-up for the New York University's Goldberg Award and a nominee for the David Mark Cohen Award. SAP is partnering with local advocacy organizations, LoveSpeaksOut and Safe Alliance, for the Charlotte premiere starring Fischer in the role of Bonnie, SAP founder Nathan Rouse in the role of Daddy, and other locals theater folk including Iesha Nyree, Caryn Crye, Walker Dixon and Robert Lee Simmons. Come on April 6 for cast and director discussions and/or on April 12 when there will be a panel discussion following the show.
