For photographer and mixed media artist Annabel Manning, a camera lens and/or video recorder is a means to document our country's marginalized discrepancies. The artist, who concentrates on political and social issues, frequently visits prisons, schools, and even hits the streets in search of subject matter: citizens who are being denied basic human rights. Her latest exhibit of photos, projections and participatory tents was inspired by the Q.C.'s Occupy Charlotte movement. In the exhibit, images are intentionally blurred to "explore the pathos and indeterminacy of the situation." But there's also an interactive spin. Participants are encouraged to design small-scale paper-made tents with messages written across them to "occupy" the gallery space.
