Charlotte's own publishing group, Novello Festival Press, will hold a book launch for its newest project on Wednesday, May 14, at the Visulite Theatre.

Making Notes: Music of the Carolinas contains over 50 essays, articles and reminiscences pertaining to regional music, covering an area that's home to such legendary figures as James Brown, John Coltrane and James Taylor. The book should hold special interest to Creative Loafing readers, as a substantial number of writers and editors (both past and present) participated in its creation. Making Notes was edited by former CL managing editor Ann Wicker, and those contributing stories include former editors John Grooms and Mark Kemp, former music editors Lynn Farris and Fred Mills, and writers Sam Boykin, Grant Britt, Tim Davis, Frye Gaillard, Lew Herman, Jonathan Singer, Bland Simpson and Rev. Billy C. Wirtz.

The Visulite event, which will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.), will include musical performances by Wirtz, Steve Stoeckel and The Local Tomatoes, as well as readings by Grooms, broadcast journalist Sheila Saints and Charlotte Observer columnist Tommy Tomlinson. Books will be available for purchase at the launch.

Admission to the event is free. For more information, call 704-358-9200.
