New World Disorder

Saturday, October 27

In case you haven't noticed, the Patchwerk Playhaus has been screening some cool stuff (go to for their upcoming schedule), and viewers in the mood for something truly different should check out New Maps of the New World, a collection of eight shorts by Roger Beebe. Beebe, a professor of Film and Media Studies at the University of Florida, has some previous N.C. ties: He's a Duke University graduate and also served as a film programmer in Chapel Hill. Beebe will be in attendance to present several of his works; some, like TB TX DANCE (created with a black-and-white laser printer) and The Strip Mall Trilogy, are experimental pieces relying heavily on visual and aural innovations, while others, like Composition in Red & Yellow (a mock-patriotic look at McDonald's) and Famous Irish Americans, approach their subjects with a sly sense of humor. 8 p.m. $5. Patchwerk Playhaus (inside Century Vintage). 1508 Central Ave.
