50 years have passed since Freedom Summer, when more than 700 local organizers and students registered voters in segregated Mississippi. This put a spotlight on the violent voter suppression facing Blacks in the deep south. Today voting rights are under attack again. Move to Amend Charlotte, NCAE, Working Films, the NCNAACP, DemocracyNC, and allies will sponsor a free screening of the documentary, Freedom Summer to Charlotte on June 26 at 7pm at the UU Church of Charlotte as part of the Moral Movies. Discussion will follow of the connections between 1964 and in 2014 in NC.
