Mighty Millie

Everything about Thoroughly Modern Millie will remind -- or inform -- you about what great musical comedies used to be before the "Big Broadway Musicals" erased their memory. Set in the Jazz Age, the snappy adaptation of the Julie Andrews-Mary Tyler Moore film (with the infectious title song along for the ride) won six Tony Awards in 2002, including Best Musical. Newcomer Carolina Bower will have big, loud-tapping shoes to fill as Millie in this CPCC Summer Theatre production, through June 29. With Susan Roberts Knowlson as the evil oriental Mrs. Mears, the comedy half of the equation is in very capable hands -- and voice. Performances Wed-Sat, 8 p.m. & 2:30 p.m., June 24 & 26, 7:00 p.m. $14-$20. CPCC Halton Theatre, 1206 Elizabeth Ave. 704-330-6534
