Talib Johnson, famously known as Musiq Soulchild, took his cues from D'Angelo and even Stevie Wonder in the early days. Musiq has developed his own style of neo-soul over the course of several recordings. There's a dash of jazz, a touch of funk and plenty of R&B-styled laid back grooves with some fine crooning, though Musiq can still use some help in the lyrics department. Give him credit for keeping ultra slick production in check while keeping the soul up front. His songs have appeared on a couple of soundtracks and the Philly native is getting ready to drop his latest, Luvanmusiq, in mid-March. The show is at Amos Southend. Tickets are $30 in advance and the doors open at 7:30 p.m. Details: www.amossouthend.com
