Lunch and Learn: "Foraging and Movements of Great Blue Herons Below Hydroelectric Below Hydroelectric Dams"

When: Fri., Sept. 20, 12-1 p.m. 2019

Dr. Todd Scarlett, a biology professor from USC Lancaster, has been studying Great Blue Herons on the Catawba River since 2010. Normally a solitary forager, Great Blue Herons feed at unusually high densities below many of the hydroelectric dams in our area. Changes in water depth and speed, due to hydro generation, affect heron foraging miles below the dams as well. Dr. Scarlett will present the results of his research and discuss the implications of this peculiar phenomenon.
