When you’re interested in eating as much as you are in art, acting can be a tough livelihood. Two out-of-work thespians in Ken Ludwig’s Leading Ladies decide on an enterprising way to combine acting with moneymaking: They will bilk a wealthy old woman out of an inheritance that is earmarked for her niece. Since this is comedy, the actors-turned-con-artists are Jack and Leo, and the need to switch genders doesn’t quite discourage them from hatching their scam. With such hits as Lend Me a Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo under his belt, Ludwig is an acknowledged master of this stagy form. Matthew Merrell and William Reilly star as the charlatans in the Davidson Community Players production. Opposite these rogues, Frances Bendert and Olivia Dalzell will represent truth, justice and an irresistible appeal to their natural instincts. Directed by Vito Abate.
