Spotted at Common Market, Joey Hewell is a trendsetter who isn't afraid to stand out by showing his own personal style. If you catch him out in Charlotte during an event, it gets even better. You might see anything from blue hair, top hats and arm-bearing button-downs that show off his sleeve tattoo to tailored suits, fedoras (one of his signature accessories) and tuxedos with Gucci shoes.
While prepping for our interview, Hewell says he realized he doesn't "necessarily have a 'style.' Right now, I have a Mohawk and a mustache. Next week, I probably won't. This week, I like my blue jean jacket; next week, it could be different." After some thought, he concludes, "I'm a fashion schizophrenic!"
The hair stylist/on-air TV personality/designer is also the creator of FashionSOUL, a yearly event that combines fashion with art, music and culture. This year's event will be held at Amos' SouthEnd on May 5 to benefit the Humane Society of Charlotte. Find out more at www.jstudiosouthend.com.
