Joel Chasnoff

When: Sun., Jan. 13, 6:30 p.m. 2013

Joel Chasnoff is a Jew with attitude. On stage, the stand-up comedian embraces his heritage while picking fun at related customs and traditions central to his life as a member of the “chosen people.” He speaks of bar mitzvahs and the empowering feeling of being a manly 13-year-old ... uh ... boy. The Chicago native, well connected to his Hebrew roots, enlisted in the Israeli Army at 24, and afterward penned The 188th Crybaby Brigade, a memoir about his experiences as a soldier in Israel. Aside from jokes, Chasnoff makes some pretty insightful suggestions for the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. He considers the war to be very personal in the hearts of both sides and supports programs that bring Palestinians and Israelis together (including Seeds of Peace, a summer camp that unites students from both backgrounds). Check out Chasnoff when he visits Davidson College for a stand-up performance.
