Jim Avett, David Childers; Mike Doughty

When: Fri., Feb. 3 2012

Jim Avett For his latest Ramseur Records release, Second Chance, Jim Avett sticks to his traditional roots in his presentation of acoustic folk music. His aged voice sits nicely among the strums, getting occasional help from Charly Lowry of Dark Water Rising. His songs draw from rock ’n’ roll and classic country influences. Also on the bill this night is David Childers who has a long musical history with the Modern Don Juans and OverMountain Men. (Jeff Hahne) MIKE DOUGHTY Former lead singer of Soul Coughing, Mike Doughty, struck out solo some years ago. Since then, he’s abandoned the talk-singing poetry jam feel of his old musical outfit to pen straightforward, melodious pop songs driven by acoustic guitar. Though delivered in his signature gravely growl, Doughty’s brand of pop is of the head-nodding, foot-tapping kind, characterized by song titles like “Rising Up,” and his chatty and affable stage presence always makes for a good show.
