Divided by a century and united by a yearning to be free, Home on the Mornin' Train is about enslaved African Americans in 1839 Talladega, Ala. and Jewish children under the threat of Nazi extermination in 1939 Hamburg, Germany. The two parallel freedom movements, America's Underground Railroad and Germany's kindertransport, are interwoven by playwright Kim Hines as the latterday German children learn about — and take inspiration from — their American predecessors while facing similar obstacles escaping the SS. This all-youth production is presented at Booth Playhouse on March 8-9. Layered onto this Porch Productions show, directed by Crystal Little, are music and dance, conducted by Lance Hamright and choreographed by LaTanya Johnson.
