HIATUS KAIYOTE
Billing themselves as a future-soul quartet, this Australian band uses jazzy music as a backdrop for singer/guitarists Nai Palm fluctuating, soulful vocals. There’s an underlying positive message in hit single “Nakamarra,” which helped earn the band a Grammy nomination. One can only imagine the varied influences behind the band’s style as one moment they sound like Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder or Kamasi Washington. (Jeff Hahne)
